We research
and collaborate.
Our mission at Fresh Press is to help change the paper supply chain from forest to farm.
We are an award-winning interdisciplinary research and making lab at the University of Illinois that explores the potential of regional sustainable agricultural fiber waste as art, paper, and objects.
We have worked with multiple universities, independent scholars, and emerging artists for research projects. As we evolve as a lab, we are always looking for more collaborations, so please reach out to start a conversation.
Book a workshop
We offer paper making workshops to the community and team-building events for companies and organizations. Our workshops can last an hour and a half to three hours where you will learn to Western papermaking. Please reach out to us so we can help get your workshop set up!
Order our paper
We enjoy experimenting with different types of plant and crop fibers for making paper. Most of our fibers come from our friends at SSF but we also accept fiber donations from various partners. Our paper comes in various sizes: 8.5" x 11", 9" x 12", 11" x 17", 12" x 18", and 16" x 20".
Work at Fresh Press
We are looking for 3-4 making apprentices, volunteers, and a studio manager. You can view past employees here and learn about them. If you are interested in working with us, we are open to a conversation about our opportunities and how you best fit into the lab’s mission.
